WW1 Battle Simulator
There are now more games about WW1 than there are museums about it and a contained strategic option can be found in WW1 Battle Simulator. Chances are that you either learned about this conflict in school or from various media like films or TV shows so you generally understand who was involved. However, many stories tend to focus on the second half of the war since this is when all the big countries were fully participating. You're given command over a variety of units that when arranged in the right formation will be able to tear across the battlefield and any soldiers in their way.
About WW1 Battle Simulator
The usual WW1 game puts you into the role of one distinct soldier in a certain army participating in a certain conflict so the action revolves around their progression. This game goes for the more strategic side of things, but it focuses mainly on your decision-making based on balance and coverage. You get access to a fair number of units that you can deploy as long as you have the resources. Victory won't be assured unless you know that your soldiers will be able to come back to base. The soldiers are relying on you to make a squad that can take on even the biggest challenges.
How to Play
WW1 Battle Simulator is a 3D isometric strategy game set in the second half of WW1 that you can play using the mouse. The cursor is used to navigate the game UI so that you can select options and the different units. To deploy a unit, click on its icon with the Left Mouse Button, then move the cursor to an empty part of the battlefield, and then click again to deploy. The goal of each battle is to defeat the enemy army with the units you've deployed, aiming to earn the most stars with a quick victory and few casualties.
You can only deploy as many units as you have money to pay for them. Your money is shown at the bottom center of the screen while the cost of each unit is shown below their icon. You'll start with access to only one type of unit but as you win more battles, you'll unlock more units to deploy. With each battle won and every soldier defeated, you'll earn more money as well. Once you've deployed all your units, press the Play button to begin the battle. Your units will automatically advance toward the enemy and attack once they get in range. If your units fall before the enemies do, you'll have to retry the battle.
Units will all have different types of attacks and health depending on their weapons. Those wielding pistols and rifles have the lowest health but the longest range and also sometimes have grenades to throw. Units with weapons like shotguns and launchers have a shorter range but are much tougher and deal more damage. You can also deploy a tank to mow through enemy squads if you can afford it.
Tips and Tricks
Like with any army or squad, you'll want to have as much balance as possible. Once you have you have more variety, have the tougher units leading your forces while the long-range attackers bring up the rear. If you can afford multiple tanks, this is a great way to steamroll a lot of battles.
