Ready to watch your favorite programs on your big screen? To watch on select TV devices, you can download our TV app, watch by opening YouTube TV inside the YouTube app on your TV, or stream YouTube TV from your mobile device or computer using a supported device below.

How to Watch YouTube TV with Your Smart TV or Streaming Device - US Only

Download and sign in to our TV app

To watch YouTube TV on your TV, download the YouTube TV app to your smart TV, or streaming device. If YouTube TV is not pre-installed, you can download the app by going to the app store on your smart TV.

Note: The YouTube TV app is different from the YouTube app. Be sure you’re searching for YouTube TV in the app store on your TV device.
Sign in to YouTube TV
  1. Open the YouTube TV app on your TV.
  2. On a computer or mobile device, go to tv.youtube.com/start.
  3. Enter the activation code displayed on your TV at tv.youtube.com/start.
    • Note: If you get stuck at this step, your activation code may have expired. Try hitting back and reloading the page to refresh the activation code displayed on your TV. Then, enter the new code at tv.youtube.com/start.
  4. Select the account associated with your YouTube TV Base Plan.
  5. Click Allow. You can now start watching on your TV.

Sign out of YouTube TV

You can sign out of YouTube TV on any device where you're signed in, even if you no longer have access to those devices.

To sign out of a device that you have access to:

  1. Open the YouTube TV app.
  2. Select your profile photo .
  3. Select Sign Out.
Note: that this action will sign you out of YouTube TV for all accounts on this device. If you want to keep using YouTube TV on this device, you'll have to sign in again.

To sign out of one account only:

  1. Open the YouTube TV app.
  2. Select your profile photo .
  3. Select Switch account.
  4. Select Remove under the account you'd like to remove.

If you want to sign out of YouTube TV on a device that you no longer have access to:

  1. Go to https://myaccount.google.com/permissions.
  2. Scroll to "YouTube TV" and click Remove access.

Play YouTube TV using your device remote

You can use your device remote control to select programs and control video playback in our TV app.
Use your remote control to:
  • Explore the full program guide to see upcoming programs on your favorite channels.
  • Play/pause/fast-forward/rewind to control playback while watching a program.
  • Switch between recently watched programs (including live TV, recordings, and on-demand programs) by selecting options below the video player.
  • Flip between live channels using the channel up/down buttons on your device remote.
  • Open your library.

Sign up for an add-on network using your TV device

You can add a network to your YouTube TV Base Plan using certain TV devices. If you see a video with a lock icon, you can select it to buy.
Note: Xbox and Apple TV devices do not support this.

There are two ways to make a purchase for an add-on network:

  1. Buy with one-click on your TV device by going to the add-on network and then Purchase.
  2. Use a second device to complete the purchase. See the steps below.
    • Note: The second device must be a web browser, or mobile device.

If you have not opted in to allow "quick purchases" on YouTube, then you'll need to use a second device to buy the add-on network:

  1. Search for the add-on network or channel using your TV device.
  2. Select the thumbnail for the add-on.
  3. Follow the instructions to go to a unique URL on a second device.
  4. Note: You'll need to do this using a web browser, or a mobile device.
  5. Click Purchase.
  6. Go back to your living room device, and click Done.
Tips:
  • To buy using the one-click process, you'll need to opt in to "quick purchases" on YouTube.
  • Turning on "quick purchases" will make sure any device you're signed in to can make YouTube purchases without extra verification.

Chromecast with Google TV

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV, if you haven't already.
  2. Start your Chromecast with Google TV device. Note: YouTube TV will be preinstalled. If it has been removed, continue to step 3.
  3. Go to the Apps tab.
  4. Search for YouTube TV.
  5. Install the YouTube TV app.

Android TV

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. Open the Google Play Store on your TV.
  3. Search for YouTube TV.
  4. Download the YouTube TV app.

Xbox consoles

YouTube TV is available on the following Xbox devices: Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, Xbox One S, and Xbox One.
  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already. Note: You can't currently sign up in our TV app, but you can elsewhere, like in the YouTube TV mobile app.

  2. On your Xbox console, go to the Xbox app store to download the YouTube TV app to your device.

Playstation devices

To install the YouTube TV app:

  1. Open the PlayStation Store on your Playstation device.
  2. Search for "YouTube TV”.
  3. From the apps section of the results, click the YouTube TV listing.
  4. Click download / install.

To uninstall the YouTube TV app:

  1. Open the PlayStation home screen and go to “TV & Video”.
  2. In the apps section, highlight the YouTube TV app.
  3. Press the "Option" button on your controller.
  4. From the menu, select Delete.
  5. Select OK.

Samsung TVs

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. Select the home button on your device's remote control.
  3. Select the "Apps" option to see a list of recommended apps.
  4. In the list of recommended apps, find YouTube TV.
  5. Save the app to your home screen for easy use.
Note: To make sure you can access YouTube TV, update your TV's firmware to the latest version.

LG TVs

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. Select the home button on your device's remote control.
  3. Go to the LG Content Store.
  4. In the LG Content Store, search for "YouTube TV" and download the YouTube TV app to your TV.
  5. Save the app to your home screen for easy use.
Note: To make sure you can access YouTube TV, update your TV's firmware to the latest version.

Apple TV

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. On your Apple TV, open the App Store app from your Home screen.
  3. Search for "YouTube TV."
  4. Download the YouTube TV app.

Roku

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. From the homepage, click Streaming Channels.
  3. Click Search channels.
  4. Search for "YouTube TV.”
  5. Download the YouTube TV app.
Additionally, you can open YouTube TV inside of the YouTube app on your TV.

Fire TV

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. Start your Fire TV device.
  3. Search for "YouTube TV."
  4. Download the YouTube TV app

Vizio SmartCast

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven't already.
  2. Go to your SmartCast home screen to see all available apps in the app row.
    • Note: YouTube TV will be preinstalled.
  3. Select YouTube TV in the list of apps.

TiVo Stream 4K

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven’t already.
  2. Select Apps from the home screen.
  3. Open the Google Play Store and search for YouTube TV. Or, do a voice search for YouTube TV using the Google Assistant.
  4. Select the YouTube TV app to install it.

Xfinity Flex and XClass TVs

  1. Sign up for YouTube TV if you haven’t already.
  2. Select Apps from the home screen.
  3. Open the Google Play Store and search for YouTube TV. Or, do a voice search for YouTube TV using the Google Assistant.
  4. Select the YouTube TV app to install it.

Stream or cast YouTube TV to your TV

You can watch YouTube TV on your TV by casting or streaming to it from a mobile device or computer.

Supported devices

  • Most smart TVs
  • TV devices with AirPlay
  • AirPlay for Apple TV
  • Smart TVs with Chromecast built-in (including Android TV devices)
  • Chromecast devices
    • Note: If you're using a first generation Chromecast , you may experience a higher rate of errors. It may also take up to 30 seconds to open.

Cast to your TV

You can cast to your TV using your mobile device or computer with these steps:

  1. Connect your mobile device or computer and streaming device to the same Wi-Fi network.
  2. Open YouTube TV on your mobile device or computer.
  3. Tap Cast Inactive cast extension or AirPlay in the top right.
  4. Select your device.
    • YouTube TV will open.
    • If you’re playing a video, it should automatically begin playing on your TV.
  5. Use your mobile device or computer to control YouTube TV on your TV.

Note: If your iPhone or iPad is on iOS 14 or later, you’ll need to give YouTube permission to connect to streaming devices on your local network, such as your TV, so you can cast to your TV. Learn how.

Play YouTube TV using Google Home

You can use your Google Home with YouTube TV to watch shows, movies, news, sports, and family content on your TV. Learn more about how to use YouTube TV and Google Home together.

Open YouTube TV inside of the YouTube app

On some devices, you can access YouTube TV from the YouTube app directly. To do this, first make sure the YouTube app is downloaded on your device.

Note: This currently works on certain devices only. We’ll expand this to as many other devices as we can over time.
  1. Open the YouTube app on your device.
  2. On the left side navigation, scroll down to the bottom to find YouTube TV.
  3. Select YouTube TV to open the app.

  • If you're part of a family group, switch accounts by signing out of and in to a different account.
  • YouTube TV also works on other devices and platforms, like your phone and computer.
