Back in the early days of board games was a game called Risk which was about trying to take over the world and the spirit of that game lives on in Kiomet. The game is very technical in the sense that it provides you with a digital representation of a world map. There are no names just locations with you and your group of people trying to take over as much of it as possible. Of course, there are other entities that share your ambitions so conflict seems inevitable. It's a combination of strategy, management, and mind games in order to reach the top.
About Kiomet
There are games that are all about seeing the big picture while making sure that all the bits and pieces fit together like a puzzle. In this game, you're always working towards something bigger but the way you get there is not always direct. You may start off with a lot or you may start off surrounded by enemy players, but it's all about how you make the most of your situation. Sometimes it's worth it to start small and other times it makes more sense to capture as much territory as possible. It all comes down to how you want to play your expansion.
How to Play
Kiomet is a 2D online strategy game about trying to take over as much territory as possible using the mouse. The cursor and Left Mouse Button are used to select your structures for upgrades as well as click and drag units to take over other territories or attack enemy players. The WASD and Arrow Keys can be used to move the camera around the map while the mouse wheel can be used to zoom in and out. The goal is to take over as much territory as possible and hold it to earn points until you're the most powerful nation.
Most of the gameplay is automated with you making decisions mainly based on movement and upgrades. Each location that you capture covers a certain portion of the region with facilities producing units automatically at certain intervals. These units will automatically defend the facility but can be directed to other locations to take over or fight occupying forces. Depending on the facility, they will produce different types of units. Certain facilities can be used to create Supply Lines which will automatically send Units to the designated location. Upgrading a facility can increase its production rate and defenses, but each upgrade has requirements in the form of having a certain number of a certain kind of facility under your control. Different units have different movement speeds and attack power which you need to consider when planning an assault.
Whenever your units come into contact with enemy units, the side with the most attack power wins. If you are attacking an occupied location, you need to send enough units in order to eliminate all the defensive forces and remove the Facility shields. When that's done, your forces can claim it and expand your territory. You can also attempt to make an alliance with enemy players in order to prevent them from attacking. The heart of each territory is represented by the King who appears as a crown on the map. If your King is defeated, you're eliminated from the game.
Tips and Tricks
This is a game of patience where if you expand too much too soon then you'll spread your forces too thin. You should try to establish a strong core around your King and then work on expanding. Make sure to set up Supply Lines that are enforcing the edges of your territory.
