ParkourCraft
We may be running out of ways to make new games about Minecraft and yet here we are with Parkourcraft. One of the earliest criticisms of Minecraft is that it didn't always offer the smoothest movement which is an issue in a world with zombies, skeletons, and exploding bushes. Yet, the movement has improved and people have been able to do amazing things in the game one person made a game all about moving and platforming through the blocky world. It's up to you whether they've improved things or whether the charm of the challenge comes from how sticky moving can be.
About Parkourcraft
There was a huge craze in the late 2000s when everyone discovered the art of parkour, but it's easier to experience as a game. This game takes perhaps one of the basic fundamentals of parkour and creates courses based on that. The truth is that parkour is the closest that humans will ever get to experiencing a platforming game in real life. This is fine since such an activity is better suited for video games as you can see from this example. Even though Minecraft is not a beacon of platforming prowess, this game shows that it can still be fun to run and jump within such limitations.
How to Play
Parkourcraft is a 3D platforming game in a Minecraft-like universe that you can play with the mouse and keyboard.
Controls
- Cursor - Look Around
- Left Mouse Button - Attack/Interact
- W - Move Forward
- S - Move Back
- A - Move Left
- D - Move Right
- Spacebar - Jump
The goal of each level is to reach the end of the course and open the treasure chest. The main threat comes from falling into the hazards below. When this happens, you'll be teleported back to the start of the level.
The levels are arranged as platforming courses that you need to navigate with your blocky hero. He's able to move and jump at a decent pace with the camera offering a wide perspective so that you can see where you're going and what's coming next. As you progress through the levels, platforms will become smaller and placed at different elevations to make jumping more difficult. When you reach the chest at the end, simply hit it to get the cash inside.
Tips and Tricks
While this is mainly platforming rather than full parkour, there's still skill involved when it comes to positioning. The blocky nature of everything makes it easier to line things up and land jumps, but be careful since friction is not as strong in this universe. The physics is a bit looser for a more fluid platforming experience, so keep that in mind.
